It was another solitary eve for Princess Eugénie, locked in her royal villa as her freshly discovered tuberculosis ate up her lungs from the inside.

Her zest for life, for voyaging across the continent and hunting in Bavaria's forests, all flashed before her eyes - as she suddenly realized she might never leave this contagion-coated room again, nor ever see her beloved ones.

It would be just her and her dis-ease from now on, until the end.

"Well," Eugénie sighed as she lit up her cigarette, "at least I have my delicious warm pizza. And I wonder what's on Netflix tonight..."
